Coretec uses Si6H12 as a base liquid silicon precursor ( 6Xs the silicon in one molecule ) as a starter material in their work much different than the Si precursors Amprius now uses and Coretecs silicon has long been touted as better than the Gaseous silanes most commonly in technology today and by Amprius . Monosilane the most commonly used ,SiH4 , revolutionized tech many years ago (Silicon Valley) In the continuing discussion about Amprius silicon anode in one of their patents ,which is not in front of me ill find it later ,it says , " Any appropriate silicon source may be used for the non-conformal and conformal silicon layers including Silane ( SiH4 ) dichlorsilane ( H2SiCl2 ) , monochlorosilane ( H3SiCl ) Trichlorosilane ( HSCl3 ) diphenylsilane , and silicon tetrachloide ( SiC14 ) . to form the silicon layers depending on the gas used , the amorphous silicon layer may be formed by decomposition or a reaction with another compound such as hydrgen reductions . The same or a different silicon source may be used for each of the layers according to various embodiments. Making an anode for a lithium ion battery : PECVD method : Deposit 1st layer over the nano wires Deposit the 2nd layer of silicon over 1st silicon layer and substrate using a thermal CVD method . !st silicon layer thickness 0.05 to 50 microns at the free ends of the nano wires......and so forth ... They use a ball milling process to make silicon nanoparticles or a process similar while Coretec uses a process of customizing there silicon nanoparticles with chemistry in the lab so they can be made much smaller nanoparticles that can still be functionalized at very small sizes which ballmillled created nanoparticles can be made small but are not able to functionalized at those small levels like Coretecs nanoparticles according to Coretec Coretec has stated they can make extreemly small nanoparticles along with thier artificial SEI layer which is i believe going to put them in the drivers seat....
