I care because if there are actively managed funds that have researched the company and not a single one has bought the stock (Lewrock mentioned there are half a doze or so like that), then it indicates that smart investors that probably know more about the company than you or I don't think it is a good risk/reward investment.

That's one of the biggest problems here: no validation in the form of stock purchases.

The only known large owners of the stock are:

1. Insiders that are given shares via options, some of which they have sold for millions of dollars, and in recent years the only known purchase from their own pockets was the bizarre 1000 share purchase by the CEO.

2. Institutions that as far as has been examine here, do not actively research the stock.

3. Retail investors.

No known industry analysts, no known industry insiders, no known wealthy individuals who hire others to find "the next big thing", no technology companys wanting a stake - NONE of the kinds of external validation that speak volumes to the retail as validation that they are right to be excited.

Andy B is worth $10 BILLION, and surely he has some very wealthy friends but none of them have coughed up $30 million or so which for Andy is less than 1% of his assets. IF he thought Lightwave was going to go up 100 fold as some here do - that $30 million would be worth $3 more billion for him ($60m could be worth $6 billion)...certainly not peanuts...It certainly would be a vote of confidence if one day we woke up to find a 5% owner filing with his name on it. But to date, nobody like him has bought in like that.

Retail loves to think they are first and smart - finding a diamond in the rough before the big boys. That's mostly a myth these days, but it seems nearly impossible that would be true after this company has been puffing up their technology for over 15 years.

That's why I care about institutional ownership. I would HOP ON BOARD with enthusiasm if just ONE of the longs who keeps touting the importance of institutional ownership for the validation reasons mentioned above would actually find one that has done that research.and bought signficant shares as a result.
