There is also a fair bit of push and pull by large data centres.
The only explanation I have for 7 foundries wanting to develop PDK’s is because the potential demand and pull from T-1’s and 2’s and from data centers.
The foundries don’t just take anybody for the development of PDK’s. They don’t have space and time to waste on nobodies.
No this thing is for real and foundries smell the margins and revenues coming from the photonics industry and no foundry wants to be left behind.
