You are right about “The ex-date always determines who receives the dividend, the stock buyer or seller.
The difference with a special dividend. the ex-dividend date will be deferred until one business day after the dividend is paid
So if you sell before or even on the date the dividend is paid.
The one that buys your shares gets the dividend.
Been there done that.
A lot of people that gave experienced this it stay quit and take Advantage.
