It appears that Susan Wachter has smelled a rat: If courts rule that CFPB is unconstitutionally funded, it could signal the end of FHFA parasitism on their conservatee. Therefore she is warning the courts in advance of the "dangers" of such a decision "for the mortgage market."

Her recent statements leave me with strong doubts about how she actually envisions the "utility model" presented in December 2020 in a CBO paper. At that time, there was talk of two free, reprivatized GSEs. What she is proposing today smells more like "eternal conservatorship." Wachter seems to be flying her flags strongly in the prevailing political wind.
