Another side of this debate (let's call them the skeptics) has been saying for more than a decade that that type of outcome was extremely unlikely given the available facts.

The only side of this debate that has been correct for more than a decade has been the skeptics.

So: you decide which "news source" you assign more credibility to. The one that has been wrong for over a decade, or the one that has been correct for over a decade. I know which one I'd assign more credibility to.
