The professional wrestling world and its fans spent the weekend sending out prayers and well-wishes for legendary in-ring competitor “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan after his wife said he was rushed to the hospital after suffering a medical emergency.
In a statement posted to the WWE Hall of Fame wrestler’s X (formerly Twitter) page Saturday, Debra Duggan said her husband “had emergency surgery this morning and everything went well.”
She provided another update Sunday, along with a photo of Duggan in a hospital bed asleep, and wrote, “Jim is resting comfortably. He is on the mend and will be back on his feet soon. Thank you for your prayers, good wishes and messages. Hacksaw’s fans are awesome.”
Duggan, 69, has twice battled cancer in recent years. There was no report of what the medical emergency was that prompted him to have to go to the hospital. However, according to reports, Duggan was being recognized by the Glens Falls Firefighters Association, where he was a seasonal firefighter in the 1970s, when the incident occurred.
