Didn't take too long for the Yankees send Matt Krook and Ron Marinaccio back to Scanton.

What could’ve been a tune-up performance in garbage time for two Yankees relievers hungry to earn playing time turned out to be a ticket back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday night.

Both Matt Krook and Ron Marinaccio came in from the bullpen in the top of the ninth against the Brewers, packing their bags after the final out of a 9-2 loss.

Krook was charged with all four of the runs that scored in the frame, although both arms are responsible for Milwaukee’s late-inning insurance, both a result of dreadful command.

Starting the inning already down three runs, Krook promptly loaded the bases with two walks and a single. William Contreras then chased Krook in the next at-bat with a two-run single up the middle.

Marinaccio came in and kept Milwaukee’s merry-go-round in motion. The right-hander hit a batter to reload the bases, walking two hitters in a row before eventually getting out of the jam.

All told, Krook and Marinaccio threw 48 pitches in the inning and only 23 were strikes. It got to a point where the fans at Yankee Stadium — those that sat through a 2:34-minute rain delay and the first eight innings of a sloppy loss were booing for every ball that was throw and cheering sarcastically for every strike.

Commanding the strike zone is Krook and Marinaccio’s kryptonite. Both inexperienced assets have had success in recent years — Krook has been unstoppable in Triple-A this year and Marinaccio was a steady contributor in the big-league bullpen last season — but they’ve dropped out of the circle of trust this summer. They’ll need to take strides forward in their ability to pound the zone and locate this winter if they want to be back in pinstripes next spring.
