Along with Estevan Florial, Ron Marinaccio must also be out of favor with the Yankees

Why Yankees keep passing on Ron Marinaccio recall

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s box score from Saturday night’s game included a pitching line that the Yankees liked seeing.

Finally, demoted Yankees reliever Ron Marinaccio had a very good outing, six up and six down to close out a 7-2 International League victory in Rochester.

It wasn’t enough to get the Toms River, N.J., native back to the big leagues after more than a month in Triple-A.

A bullpen spot opened up Sunday with Ian Hamilton being placed on the 15-day injured list with a strained groin, but the open roster spot went to fellow rookie right-hander Greg Weissert.

Same thing Friday. When rosters expanded from 26 to 28 and the Yankees added a 14th pitcher, their choice for a recall was rookie starter Randy Vasquez, who will pitch in relief in September.

Marinaccio, 28, surely is disappointed, but major control problems led to his July 31 option to the minors and they’ve continued with Scranton. In 10 Triple-A games, he has a 6.17 ERA with nine strikeouts and 13 walks in 11 2/3 innings.

But unlike outfielder Estevan Florial, who is out of favor with the Yankees and has no future in the organization despite putting up excellent stats this year, they still really like Marinaccio.
