That paper was published in 2010. Here is a more recent comparison of Zinc Air vs. Li-ion (pre-Cowan University study) ...

No doubt a Zinc Air battery that's superior to Li-ion would have major repercussions.
WW zinc reserves are 3X that of Lithium.
