On August 21, the Texas Rangers held a 1 1/2 game lead in the AL West. Since then, Yankees castoff Aroldis Chapman has blown two saves and earned the loss in five appearances.
Now, Texas sits in third place in the division, one game behind the Seattle Mariners and the Houston Astros.
“It’s a tough spot in extra innings with a man on second, and Chappy just had trouble finding the plate there,” Rangers manager Bruce Bochy told Bally Sports Southwest after the game.
New York is familiar with this version of Chapman, who lost three postseason games for the Yankees in his tenure with the team. Who could forget the smirk he wore on his face after giving up a walk-off home run to José Altuve in Game 6 of the 2019 ALCS.
