Just some personal notes from the Intel 2Q 2023 presentation. Photonics mentioned as it related to MobilEye and Lidar. Remarkable that Intel kind of downplayed and omitted to talk photonics and the customer requirements from the big data companies. Intel sees AI at the edge and at the customer ( not a roundtrip to the cloud) !!!???? In other words workload increases at the PC chip level. Intel is well positioned to be successful here. Intel also admitted - after being questioned- the need of AI Custom silicon requirements and workload increases for Data and Telecom. Gelsinger understand bandwidth limitations. He believes Intel can support it’s customers with packaging and foundry capability and it’s current semi conductor chip roadmap. Nevertheless he announced an Innovation Meeting in September. Can’t believe Intel inadvertently forgot about photonics.
