It is not a lie if it is a forward looking statement that does not come to pass (your argument on this is debatable). But even if we grant you that this one was a lie, (which I do not) that still does not permit egregious defamation on other matters without consequence.

Even in a forward looking statement one can not assert something they know to be false. It is almost impossible to prove that in a court of law that it is fraudulent, but that does not make it factually not a lie.

if you posted that you hoped to be signed by the Atlanta Braves next week to be their starting right fielder that would be a forward looking statement. It would also be a lie.
