What you're missing is insurance companies don't have to cover a combo in their formulary. Amarin going to them now and offering them a combo drug when Branded V, generic V, generic statins or whatever 2nd drug all exist as stand alone products, wont force them to cover the combo. They will just tell Amarin they're sticking with the stand alone drugs and go away unless pricing is below generic offerings. If Amarin pulls Branded V from the market entirely, and only offers a combo, Insurers will not be compelled to cover it. Their argument will be that Amarin abandoned Branded V and they'll just put everyone on the generic. You walk up with your Rx for Vascepa+ and the pharmacist will tell you its not covered, your out of pocket cost is $300, or you can get the individual components which are covered for a $20 copay. 99% of people will just take the covered drug.
