This brings me back a little. I was trained to understand that a target ( is real) "on the horizon" was in fact real and (if you were standing at water level then the horizon was roughly 12 miles away (due to the curvature of the earth)..the important thing is...IT WAS REAL....NOT VAPOR. Sometimes a TARGET was identified BUT, it was an error...., ( "NOT REAL"). ...just an error in look out skills. Sometimes such (unreal targets after seen on alternate radar were known as SPOOKS)...SPOOKS were a pain in the AXX b/c they looked REAL for a few seconds...then they were RE-Assessed as SPOOKS....(NOT REAL) ...as time passed crews got better at determining ..."WHAT WAS REAL ?? got converted from SPOOK to BOGEY...CONFIRMED AS REAL...,Anyways. As one can imagine , the training-skills, quality of equipment and confirmation processes got better over time .

IMO, we need to get better at making calls on SPOOK (undetermined-not known but possible) vs. BOGEY...THE REAL THING.

We need to get better (more skillful) around here at making the TBD target calls correctly (SPOOK means fake, not real or vapor) VS (BOGEY = REAL THING). ...and TBD...remains SPOOK until confirmed ...keep an eye on it but possibly not real...

Do NOT CALL BOGEY UNLESS IT's REAL .
