1. New Patent Published 15 Jun 23 for LWLG. Warning heavy chemistry involved, but an entirely new method of aligning chromophores without high temp or high voltage. "Nonlinear Optical Chromophores Having Tetrahydrocarbazole Donor Groups, Lyotropic Compositions Containing The Same, And Methods Of Poling Such Compositions". Application # 18/078337

"Various embodiments of the invention exhibit liquid crystalline properties and form lyotropic compositions when mixed with a solvent. For example, in certain embodiments, the chromophores display lyotropic nematic liquid crystal phases in polar organic solvents. Resulting liquid crystalline properties provide a mechanical anisotropic effect allowing for the formation of a non-centrosymmetric chromophore-polymer matrix without the application of an electric field. In accordance with various embodiments described herein, a sufficient electro-optic coefficient (r.sub.33) can be induced mechanically, alleviating the need for the application of poling temperature and electric field, typically 170° C. & 100 v/pm. The liquid crystalline properties and the lyotropic compositions allow for milder processing conditions and, thus, higher poling efficiency."

Sounds good to me, progress via an entirely new approach, and more than 1 way to skin a cat. Also, since 2 of my recent posts were quickly overrun with a bunch of arguing and fingerpointing, they are presented again below.

The present invention is directed, in general, to compositions containing electro-optic materials and high boiling point solvents allowing for improved, more efficient poling, as well as methods of poling such materials. Various embodiments of the present invention thus provide materials with excellent electro-optic properties which can be efficiently poled for use in electro-optic devices. In the various embodiments of the present invention, materials can be applied as thin films and efficiently poled at low temperatures with normally applied voltage, while simultaneously exhibiting excellent nonlinear optical macroscopic properties and thermal stability.
