If there really were naked shorts that could not be traced or tracked from back as far as 2014 why would they cover now? Why after 9 years would these imaginary shorts cover?

You simply cannot have Naked Shorts without FTD. If no FTD was issued then there would be no need for them to ever cover since they are undiscovered. The entire naked short BS is nothing more than a con to trap naive traders who fall for it.
