Thanks 15for2 for your detailed response and explanation, really appreciate it!! I have some more followup questions:

1) What will trigger the DTCC to order a buy-in, in the case of DBMM?
Will the triggers be:
- Alpine expelled out by Finra and/or maybe filing bankruptcy? How will the DTCC know the
fact that Alpine is not able to cover? Do they inform the DTCC?
- The Kramers not being able to cover? Do they inform Alpine?
- Anything else?

2) Could you please list out, if possible the chain of events before DTCC orders a buy-in.

IMHO Below are my thoughts for the chain of events (I might be totally wrong)

a) Kramer's get margin calls from Alpine (their Prime Broker) and they don't cover for whatever
reason, such as lack of funds, filing bankruptcy, or they want to evade short covering.

b) Alpine is expelled by Finra and/or files bankruptcy and they report to the DTCC that they
can't cover for whatever reason, like lack of funds, filing bankruptcy or they want to evade
short covering.

c) Now DTCC has no choice but to start the covering of DBMM naked shorts.

3) Is it possible that if Alpine and Kramers are not able to cover the naked shorted shares, the DTCC may not cover, with the result DBMM will then have to file a lawsuit against DTCC, which will take time (with the can kicking etc) and may not have any resolution.

I would love to hear your thoughts/explanation.

Thanks for your help!!
