I downloaded the PDF of the paper, which enabled easier reading of the text and graphics. The paper is simply a meta-analysis, a compiled list of all of the papers and data on all of the drugs currently under development, in clinical trials, or recently approved to treat Alzheimer's. 187 Phase 1, 2, and 3 clinical trials assessing 141 unique drugs are listed in the paper. Ostensibly very impressive.

But I found not a thing that furthers an understanding of any of the Anavex molecules that will target Alzheimer's. Nothing really useful for the 185 other drugs listed in the paper, either. My take-away from the paper? Well, there are now 187 drugs being targeted at Alzheimer's, with a diversity of mechanisms of action. Simply, the market for a successful Alzheimer's drug is gigantic, so lots of companies are spending lots of dollars trying to be successful in that market.
