Because THEY CAN!? Why should they dilute their shareholders? COOP has a lot of unrestricted cash and more than $1B in total liquidity available, if I remember correctly (have to look up the exact number later)

WHY DID THEY DO IT IN CASH, WHEN THEY HAVE AMPLE SHARES AVAILABLE
