José Miguel Benavente wisely notes that a proposed "State Controlled" Lithium producing company without lithium refinery machinery and qualified people to run that machinery directly on its payroll is nothing but a pretend shell of a lithium producing company https://biorednoticias-cl.translate.goog/2023/04/corfo-y-estrategia-del-litio-lo-que-el-presidente-nos-pide-es-control-estatal/?_x_tr_sl=es&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en-US&_x_tr_pto=wapp so don't (ie Boric & Nicolas Grau) be so eager to cut or over-squeeze SQM or Albemarle out of the lithium-making process. You all need to remember that SQM's refinery machinery is "safely" located 240km from the CORFO Atacama project site and located (ie untouchable) on private property owned by SQM https://english.cw.com.tw/article/article.action?id=3398 see midway down the article.

José Miguel Benavente is also urging Mommy's boy Gabby Boric to start negotiating the new lease with SQM ASAP because if the State takes the negotiations right down to the wire in early 2030 then SQM is going to stop putting any new lithium into the pipeline 18 months (mid 2028) before the lease ends thus producing an 18-month (minimum) break in the lithium production chain of events which means zero state-income/kickbacks/slush-fund-renewal/pay-offs/Chilean-taxes for a solid 18 months which will kill nearly all the blood-sucking corrupt beaners/bureaucrats vampire-feeding off the SQM gravy train. And do remember if some other lithium miner were to "rent" the CORFO Atacama property (after SQM leaves for greener pastures) it will be another 18 months before any lithium is sold on the world market creating a 36 month total "gap" (minimum if everything goes perfect on scheduling) for the government in lithium income (that is, if the sun-baked/shredded/ruined plastic brine pool liners can even be repaired in-situ).

The current CORFO, SQM, Codelco "starting positions" are fairly well summarized in this new Redimin article The lithium strategy threatens 80% of SQM's revenues: what the negotiation with Codelco will be like https://www-redimin-cl.translate.goog/la-estrategia-del-litio-amenaza-el-80-de-los-ingresos-de-sqm-como-sera-la-negociacion-con-codelco/?_x_tr_sl=es&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en-US&_x_tr_pto=wapp

The Doctor

Dear José Miguel Benavente, you forgot to mention that if SQM thinks it is going to get a screwing on CORFO Atacama that they can strategically/deliberately drag their feet 2024 through mid-2028 and then take their "sandbagged" originally contributed 64,000mt (min) LCE license (pre-SQM 1993 incorporation page 6 of 15) in 2030 and transfer it over to their SQM Maricunga privately-owned property which will/could be a great dowry to the LPI-Machine which should include Simbalik & SIMCO by then. And if Republicans are controlling the government then you can bet that SQM dowry will be getting at the least doubled by the CChEN in 2030 if SQM hasn't already secured some nice new fat Lithium Tender LCE export quota licenses in the interim. Speaking for our minority LPI shareholders group, we would be super happy to simply truck our Maricunga ore to SQM's refinery plant... we've always liked Julio Ponce BTW.
