I'm with you on this one too. Children all need to be identified as part of our "bold experiment". If they get left out in the beginning, they might not recover on the back end.
If there are only trophies for the chosen few and the others are left out, there should be no trophies at all. Cancel the banquets and take them all to the local diners after each game.
Teach them to respect the team and how we all work together to be one functioning unit, then have fun after it's over, win or lose. Just because a kid sucked at baseball doesn't mean they won't grow up to excel at something else.
If they are nurtured and appreciated, learn how teams operate, they will grow into their shoes. All together and not worrying about who might have bested you that day. Dust yourself off and figure out how we can all work together over this sundae.
