I have come to believe that wars that the United States have been involved in post Korea were necessary in the larger perspective. Even as they seemed unjust and unnecessary at the time. Uncle Ho asked Uncle Sam to side with Vietnam against the French. That was a USA failure not to side with Ho Che Minh but allowed a proxy war against the USSR. But was a total tragedy on both sides. Only that which outgoing President Eisenhower warned of for the upcoming Vietnam conflict in his farewell speech " Beware of the Military Industrial Complex." Pres. Johnson and Nixon were all in on Vietnam. This MIC championed by Dick Cheney got the USA under the GWB admin into long lasting wars.
Every other War had at least a semblance of Justice at the core. USA chose all the other wars. The United States will not chose and will not want the next one. These smaller conflicts at the edges of geopolitical hot zones have dissipated some of the energy/friction that existed. Now Russia fails not against NATO and US Soldiers just the equipment. China has to know the United States will fight and win a war of Justice. I do not care if the next President is Pete Buttigieg the people of the United States demand Justice. Time after time the competency of everyday Americans have compensated for weak leaders. Taiwan is a flash point. What would Ronald Reagan do? That is right, B1s B52s in the Philippines. Whether Hot or Cold it might involve sacifices not endured since the second world war. USA might be better off with less trade with China.
BTW ..all accounts of Ho Che Minh suggest he was a total evil criminal but not as bad as Mao. So Fxxx all those guys. Ask Germans about Gen George Marshall and Japan about Gen Douglas McArthur and how that worked out for them in post War reconstruction.
