A Lithium mine in the Horn recommissioned to supply Tesla and LG Chem
Thursday, March 30, 2023

Two customers of choice
The North American Lithium (NAL) project has begun commercial production of spodumene concentrate for electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla Inc. and battery cell manufacturer LG Chem, among others. The La Corne, Quebec, open-pit mine, jointly owned by Australia's Sayona Mining Ltd. and U.S.-based Piedmont Lithium Inc., officially resumed production on March 30, following an US$80 million modernization and improvement project.

A monopoly for the next two years
The Quebec mine is expected to be the only major new source of lithium-rich spodumene concentrate in North America over the next two years. Sayona and Piedmont aim to produce 226,000 tonnes per year of this material, which contains approximately 6% lithium oxide
