Not sure. It might be just to leverage more capital? Maybe the advice of his peeps for financing purposes.

I don't see him spinning off his baby. You can't lose control of that company while trying to build smart cities all over the world, which is another reason to take it public.

They obviously need to do it for some reason. Guess we will find out soon enough. A public shareholder update would go a long way right now. (Although the pps drops every time he does one...)
