So, if you knock one battery powered device, you gotta knock them all - phones, computers, tablets, basically all IOT.

Incorrect. The reason being is the fact that those small devices mentioned are not sold nor bought with the idea that they are helping the enviornment.

Electric vehicles are sold and bought with the idea its better for the envionrment. While California maybe seeing improvement in air quality, places with increased mining and processing are seeing worse. Essentially we in Western countries are simply transfering, some of our pollution, to mostly developing countries and Australia. Which is partly why the world is seeing greater CO2 being released now.

The only true solution is to utilize the vehicles we already have and reduce our use of them. However this is bad for capitalism.
