What if the $ comes from green credits like I heard it does for tesla? I thought I read the majority of any income they have is from carbon credits not cars? Using the plastic stream that is total waste even if it is less efficient could make sense if the point is cleaning up the environment and eliminating new oil sourcing. As it sits now, it is a trash problem. We are past peak oil so they can use the inputs the people pay them to take in to run their system and the output is a product that is more valuable over time. Just a thought. Efficiency is not really in the equation if there are no more sources of oil every drop counts. Even as more novel energy systems appear oil is needed for the near/mid term. I like they are exploring hydrogen so it is perceived as more green. Additionally there are some applications where only oil will do. The sorting out of contamination that OMR highlighted would be critical. Assuming this is not creepy people taking advantage (always a possibility) hydrogen could be a great step in a new economy.
