From the age of 20, I felt the Social Security gambit was a ponzi scheme. I managed my finances my entire life assuming Social Security wouldn't be there when I was old enough to get my money back.

I enrolled for SS as soon as I could. Not because I necessarily needed it but because I couldn't be sure how much longer it might last.

Turns out, I was likely correct in both cases. My timing was just a bit off. I would have been far better off if I could have invested those funds myself instead of being forced to give them to the federal government.
