Yes, Optune because it is an external device, rather than a drug, doesn’t have the kinds of hurdles to cover. Think Icey Hot or those things that exercise your stomach muscles with electric current. Not a dissimilar category.

The reality is, national and state controlled insurance programs carefully reviewed the trials for Optune and found the evidence of patient benefit and the cost benefit analysis not there. So yes, it is “only coverage” and “not approval”, but it is a more careful and meaningful review because the licensing for this external device was so questionable. And remember, Stupp ran that trial. And he thinks it’s great. And then he questions a systemic treatment that has patients living over 20 years with no sign of disease and that is easy to comply with and doesn’t cost $21,000 every month of life forever…

Hmm… I wonder who has a conflict of interest.
