After months of summertime flooding in recent years and a three-year COVID-19 lockdown that locked farmers inside their homes and away from their fields, the Chinese Communist Party says the country has reaped bountiful harvests for the past 13 years. But at the same time, it’s encouraging citizens to add something called rice bran into their diets. The fiber is usually reserved for livestock feed and fuel-making, and was only consumed widely by Chinese people some 60 years ago, during the Great Famine.
