Do you think the scientist are just sitting in the lab playing connect the dots with molecules? I’m pretty sure they understand what gene sequences they are removing and vectoring into the worms, similar to GMO chickens and vegetables..

The only difference between true silk and the new dragon silk (aside from all the mechanical attributes) is the breeding of the worms.

True silk uses the same cocoon harvesting, same spooling methods, and all the other stuff that applies to dragon silk. The difference is in the cost in my eyes. Hard to say if it will be worth it, but I think it is.
