That would NEVER be allowed now.
What a smart idea! And you're right: Can you imagine the horrified looks if you took in yesterday's roast and asked them to do that?
My mother also made a roast every Sunday, at least till I was about 13 and she began to vary our diet. On Monday, we'd have it again, but really overcooked, instead of only somewhat overcooked. My father liked his meat well-done. Ugh. Tuesday, we had hot roast beef sandwiches with gravy. Then it was usually gone.
