It appears they are using Mann-Whitney-U test to crunch data, it requires smaller sample sizes to produce p values can be used with missing data points. If this is true all the criticism about one and two tailed t-test are not correct. The Mann-Whitney-U can produce Odds Ratios, one and two tailed test-t and is more suited for nonparametric samples.
JPM conference of 1/12/23 page #6 revels they used Mann-Whitney U test to crunch the ADCS-ADL data to show S1 mRNA levels correlates with positive outcome in ADCS_ADL scores.
