Many EV users living in colder climates are starting to grumble about the battery in inclement weather . EV owners have to charge more frequently.
On top of the reduced range, you will have to charge your EV more frequently, but how does an unsuspecting driver know how much the range will be impacted?
A drop in temperature will, of course, affect charging speeds, and it is sensible to allocate extra time for charging or, if using a public charging point, plan to arrive a little earlier to avoid any unnecessary delays to your journey time.
Supoose one is stranded today with snow ( multi-feet ) on Interstate 80 in the Sierra Mountain Range of California. With limited heat capabilities, and no charging stations , one is in dire straits. Maybe 2 hours of EV heat idling, while neighboring gas powered vehicles can periodically heat for a few days with 20+ gallons in the tank.
