Network slicing is one of the core technologies of 5G. It is based on cloud computing, network function virtualization, software-defined network, and other technologies to realize the reasonable allocation of resources. Its essence is to divide the physical network into multiple virtual networks logically. Each virtual network can provide customized services according to different requirements (such as bandwidth, delay, security, cost, etc.) to flexibly and reliably respond to different scenarios in the network.

The management function and resource allocation of network slices is a challenging task, which requires effective decision-making at the network level, even real-time decision-making, which can be achieved by integrating artificial intelligence into the network.
WiMi Hologram Cloud Inc. (NASDAQ:WIMI) has developed a network slice management system on the radio access network (RAN) side with artificial intelligence technology as the core. The system uses network function virtualization technology (NFV) to instantiate multiple virtual networks (named slices) on the same physical network infrastructure, and allocate dedicated resources and customized functions to each slice of each layer to adapt to the highly heterogeneous and demanding requirements of modern mobile services. Based on artificial intelligence technology, the system applies AI to each stage of the slice life cycle, realizes access control to the network, and dynamic resource allocation in the network core and wireless access.

The RAN side network slice management system developed by WiMi uses artificial intelligence technology to solve the resource allocation problem of wireless access network (RAN) slices. Network slices are deployed through network function virtualization (NFV) and software-defined network (SDN) to provide diversified and personalized network services. The system can meet the resource allocation requirements of the network at the RAN side to the maximum extent while reducing the cost. The system can be widely used in various network scenarios, such as high-definition video, mobile phone networks, the Internet of Things, the Internet of Vehicles, etc.

The WIMI artificial intelligence RAN side network slice management system manages network slice resources at different stages:
- Physical layer:
slice, isolate and dynamically adjust wireless resources, including spectrum resources, wireless port resources, resource units (RE), and physical resource blocks (PRB).

- Data link layer:
The protocol stack contains four modules:
MAC/RLC/PDCA and SDAP. In terms of the implementation of the slicing function, according to the different time requirements of business scenarios, it mainly completes the slicing priority scheduling (execution level), channel resource slicing, nearby computing, quality of service (QoS), and other features.

- Wireless control module (RRC module):
implements slice authentication, slice priority allocation (control level), and slice policy management. The RRC module can manage the slice resources of the physical layer and the data link layer.

- Slice Choreographer:
It deploys global slices and manages a broader range of slice resources. The RAN slice contains three types of resources;
- airport resources,
- protocol stack resources, and
- base station equipment resources.

Each type of resource can be divided into different slices according to its resource characteristics (such as large bandwidth slice, multi-access slice, and low delay slice; or commercial Internet of Things, consumer IoT, NGS, and Internet of Vehicles for slicing). According to the slice characteristics, the slice’s resource occupancy, scheduling strategy, and granularity can be designed and then provided to the slice choreographer for allocation. At the same time, the slices will be reallocated, merged, and expanded according to the control information sent by the slice choreographer.

With the continuous expansion of 5G network applications, 5G enables vertical industries and faces various network QoS requirements (such as bandwidth, delay, security, etc.). 5G network slice drives network architecture development towards software and service. Network slice technology migrates computing, storage, and business capabilities to the edge of the network by providing end-to-end logical private networks that can realize specific network capabilities. Realize the local computing and distributed deployment of applications to meet the differentiated service requirements perpendicular to the industry.

WiMi Hologram Cloud Inc. (NASDAQ: WIMI) RAN side network slice management system based on artificial intelligence supports the rapid deployment, collaborative work, and full life cycle management of slices, and has the on-demand customization, automatic slice deployment, end-to-end monitoring and collaboration, and intelligent slice operation and maintenance capabilities.

The network slicing technology ensures end-to-end service quality. In the future, network slicing technology will gradually involve a wide range of industrial applications, including VR/AR, smart grid, intelligent manufacturing, innovative parks, drone R, smart transportation, smart security, automatic industrial control, etc.
