Std: there’s a lot Cali could do with the extra power (albeit expensive $$). They could build centralized chillers for the downtown buildings. We have them in Phoenix. Basically, you’re freezing salt water in huge containers. And running your chilled water lines through this ice. This is for Air Conditioning of these huge buildings. Although in Phoenix we use “off peak” electricity for this and use the chilled water during the day.

As for Diablo Canyon, don’t be too upset. Nuclear power plants are built very robust. Not like Chernobyl or Fukushima. Diablo Canyon is a System 80 design, very robust, similar to a Nuclear Submarine.
As for San Andreas fault being near the Nuke Plant. I’ve heard that the fault itself is far enough out from the coast as to not cause a problem. Besides buildings have to be built in accordance with codes. Look at Japan “Earthquake Capital” you got to get power from somewhere.
