I remember the ceo of Overstock.com doing everything under the sun to fight a short attack including engagement of high dollar lawyers

The net result was painting a giant bullseye on his company's back and a doubling and tripling down by every short out there.It led to a herd effect short attack.

Eventually there was an epic short squeeze as the company was unfairly singled out but Overstock, did in fact deliver a turnaround and accelerating earnings,but the net result of the CEO's fight was to effect a deeper and more prolonged and sustained downward push.

When targeted by a nefarious mob oftentimes its best to simply mind one's own business and execute the business plan.
