But to make things very clear why don’t news people also state the per capita rate, the dollars per citizen? A congressional expenditure of $1.7 trillion is actually $1,700,000,000,000.

The current population of the US is 326,700,000.

So, the per capita expenditure of $1.7 trillion is $1,700,000,000,000/326,700,000 = $5,203.55

With a per capita datum the expenditure is more comprehendible. As a tax-paying citizen, in an equitable tax system, I’m obligated to fork over $5200. Or.... in time.... (we won’t go there).
