In recent years, WiMi Hologram Cloud, Inc. (NASDAQ: WIMI) has been exploring real-time holographic display technology and applying it to AR holographic entertainment. The WIMI MR system, independently developed by the WIMI R&D team, allows end users to edit and display holographic AR content and create customized visual effects. The WIMI MR system R&D team is exploring CGH technology to enable AI to quickly generate holographic images and display them in real-time.

Traditional photos present authentic physical images, while holograms contain the recorded object’s size, shape, brightness, contrast, and other information. The ability to deliver three-dimensional scenes with a sense of continuous depth profoundly impacts virtual and augmented reality, human-computer interaction, education, and training. Computer-generated holography (CGH) realizes 3D projection of high spatial angles through numerical simulation of diffraction and interference.

Computer Generated Holograms (CGH) use computers to generate digital holograms using specific algorithms to realize light field reproduction. Since the light wave can be described by parameters such as phase and amplitude, the degree or amplitude of the light can be calculated by a computer to generate a digital hologram, which is then input into an optical modulator called Spatial Light Modulator (SLM) to modulate the phase or amplitude of the light (equivalent to simultaneously “writing” the zoom lens and screen into SLM). Finally, the SLM is illuminated by coherent light, generating a refreshable light field and forming a freely changeable dynamic holographic 3D image.

CGH technology in AR systems allows users to focus on the displayed content across multiple depth planes naturally. This advantage can solve many shortcomings of current AR devices, allowing users to interact with AR objects more efficiently over a short distance. In addition, it can solve the problem of visual convergence conflict (VAC), a broad concern in the field of AR wearable device design, and further improve user comfort.

At present, CGH technology is in its infancy and faces many challenges. On the one hand, CGH has a tremendous amount of computation and requires high computing power; On the other hand, the spatial light modulator has low resolution and small size, and the overall imaging quality still needs to be improved. WiMi Hologram Cloud (NASDAQ: WIMI) R&D team is still making ongoing exploration, studying the CGH acceleration algorithm, realizing fast computer-generated holograms through acceleration technology, or combining visual tracking technology in the SLM to achieve holographic display of different depths of field.

CGH display is considered to be a technology with the potential for change. The application of CGH will benefit many fields, from VR to 3D printing. The new technology can help AR viewers immerse themselves in a more realistic landscape while eliminating eye fatigue and other side effects caused by long-term viewing. With the development and application of CGH technology, the WIMI MR system will be able to be applied in many methods such as direct vision, virtual and augmented reality, and vehicle-mounted HUD display in the future, which will further promote the development of WIMI holographic business.
