It's been my experience that when a rumor is heard it usually ends up being true. This particular rumor is not that far fetched to think it's a true rumor. A ridiculous rumor would be something absurd like poster X is actually acting civil towards other posters. Something like that.
A rumor with some truth to it is like; Did you hear that Elon Musk is buying Twitter? A ridiculous rumor; Bill Clinton is Gay.
