Years ago my son concocted a Wikipedia article about his district championship high school baseball team. Son naturally highlighted his own role as "a star pitcher" on that team. Article looked genuine; son had straight A's in English. New York Times couldn't have written it better

I watched as that silly piece remained in Wikipedia for quite some time. Anyone looking up his large high school would find that article on top of Google. It was accurate. His team was nearly undefeated. But it was hardly Wiki material. Eventually the article, and my son's online fame, vanished.

It's easy to plant fake stuff on the web. Keeping it up for a few years is tougher.
