A Potential Anavex Application

The world's largest Alzheimer's study has made a gene discovery that could lead to treatments

Thank you for posting this new research.

In essence the study found several specific genes that apparently predisposed people toward Alzheimer's; genes dealing with the immune system and cholesterol.

The findings were valid. The discovered genes were, indeed, found in people with Alzheimer's. They may, very well, contribute to or help cause the disease. At the least, they could increase susceptibility.

But exactly how any of this could lead to a useful Alzheimer's treatment is yet problematic. Changing the existing genes in hundreds of millions of neurons in humans has not yet been demonstrated.

However, in regard to Anavex, the detection of the discovered genes could indicate the appropriateness of initiating blarcamesine therapy, as a prophylactic measure. Prevent the onset of Alzheimer's before it would appear in people with these genetic predispositions for the disease.
