Kiwi, tell your wife to prescribe “drink lots and lots” of water to her patients instead of drugs. Good old fashioned water to flush out the kidneys.
My last blood test annual Gfr (kidney function) went from 48 to 64. The only thing I did different is consumed lots more water. In my layman’s opinion, I don’t think people in general consume enough water, especially in winter.
