To "modulate" in chemical reactions (in this instance related to capacity for "adsorption" - the grabbing of something passing by that then attaches to and forms a thin film on the organic latticework structure designed to grab it) is way, way different than modulating light by use of the hardware/device called a "modulator" (even though for LWLG the electron-shell-jumping activity of electrons in chromophores attached to an organic latticework is involved).

Damn. Not so sure that sentence helps, but I'm going to leave it be.
