Been preparing myself for Mondays PIC Summit. Been looking at the indium phoshide and silicon photonics eco systems, product development and the various upcoming PIC markets ( a.o. sensoring in medical, agro business, data and telecom 6G, lidar etc) since the majority of participants are using one of these fast switching light platforms. Industry and government ambitions remain sky high when in especially in Europe we don't have the required engineering talent to realise all these ambitions short term. But we have allocated 43 Billion to the Chips Industry. Industry PPA's ( performance, power, area) themselves remain ambitious without due regard for rising product complexity, rising power consumption or for that matter manufacturability in foundries, let alone capital requirements. Execution requires industry cooperation and organisation at all levels . My humble 40 years experience in corporatism and capitalism tells me : GOOD LUCK. I see these kind of coop/ constructions as an admission and rescue of last resort. Too slow to be effective,
I realize all of this whilst preparing WHILST AT THE SAME TIME two silicon foundries with standard CMOS fabrication, no extra tools ( capex) with extremely high yields will be ready to manufacture in volume with Lightwave Logic slot modulators solving P ( world record 100-170Ghz channel speed), low Vpi, HIGH r33.
