Half battery cell testing :

There are many things to consider before you assemble full cell by analyzing half cell reactions.
You have to balance capacity/mass ratios.
Check the cyclability of half cells ...before get any idea about full cell.
Check polarisability of cathode and anode..
Select cut-off voltage of the full cell... and so on.

Polarisability
When a molecule is in an electric field, its distribution of charge is displaced. This induces a dipole µ. The polarisability a relates this dipole to the electric field:

As a simple rule of thumb, the polarisability is proportional to the volume occupied by the molecule.

Before you assemble full cell, you should calculate the ratio of anode and cathode materials through specific capacity.
The mass ratio of anode and cathode materials is always calculated through following equation:
a*mass loading of anode materials*electrode area* specific capacity of true anode materials=mass loading of cathode materials*electrode area* specific capacity of true cathode materials,
a is a coefficient, and it is always controlled as 1.05-1.1, for little more anode materials.
The true specific capacity is always lower than (or different with, like graphite) theoretic specific capacity. So, we should define the true specific capacity of both anode and cathode materials before we research full cell.
As well as other parameters, like cut-off voltage.
Most important, the materials we studied are always not stable enough to study full cell. There are lots of parameters affect its performance. We normally research full cell using stable materials. Maybe this is also a big reason why we study half cell first before studying full cell.
