I think the long view is that shorts control the share price


Yep, that seems to be the “long view”, which is incorrect.

The fact of the matter is any trader who goes short on this equity does so because it is an excellent short candidate. Anyone can see how the share price was pumped earlier with very little tangible to justify the price.

The shorts aren’t members of the Loyal Order of Mystic Shorts who meet at the lodge every week to coordinate which tickers to short. There is not some nefarious cabal of short sellers “holding the price down”.

The price reflects what the market thinks the equity is worth. Anyone who shorts the equity is simply taking advantage of what appears to be an excellent short opportunity.. And why wouldn’t they? Heck, if I was a trader and used shorting as part of my trading strategy, I would short it too. But I’m not a trader and have never shorted any equity.
