New York's high taxes didn't stop Gerrit Cole from leaving Texas with no state income tax to sign a 9 year / $324,000,000 contract with the Yankees.

The Yankees also see their main competition for Aaron Judge coming from the Giants and maybe the Cubs and Dodgers. California and Illinois are not known for their low state income taxes and low crime rates.
