Agree, top to bottom. The inexplicable leads to two conspiracy explanations.

One is that the CCP absorbed (read co-opted and stole) this US company’s ip through Li as a middle agent. In this scenario Li may or may not have been extorted and may or may not have participated against his will. In every version of this explanation Li was rewarded above and under the table, compensating him for his $64M away from public eye. This we’re looking at a dead man walking when we look at Liquidmetal, a zombie company that exists as a sham and cover for the theft described above.

The other is that Apple is behind Li coming in and everything else after. All other efforts at drumming up business are necessary distractions for the wider world to obscure the Apple work being done. Thus they are undertaken half heartedly and they’re only being picked up when the outside company does most of the work themselves. In this explanation Apple means everything. They picked Li, they have been investing in machines, they have been working on product designs, they have been delayed by COVID but they will eventually fish or cut bait. Getting them to fish means everything to Li and Chung, and they too may be worried that the slightest misstep could lead apple to walk away. But if they don’t, “one contract can make a company” or something like that.

I’m 66% in the second camp.
