Here's an interesting article that's mostly on the same subject:

How to Cook Pasta, Better

https://blog.thermoworks.com/bread/how-to-cook-pasta-better-2/

This, however, is incorrect:

One older, tried-and-true method for preventing a boil-over is to lay a wooden spoon across the top of your pot as you cook. The spoon literally pops the bubbles as they rise, and can help prevent a boil over.

If you use the kind of pot I use--a stockpot--the bubbles never come close to the spoon. You can try it at home. Naturally you need to have your pasta water at a high boil. NO oil in the water. If foam forms and bubbles begin to rise, put a wooden spoon across the top of the pot. You'll see the foaming activity subside immediately.

Magic!!

And I'm puzzled by something in the article by the woman who tried cooking pasta five different ways. She said that it took her 18 minutes to boil her pot of water. Really? I'll bet I use more water than she does, and it takes me 10 minutes at most.

Maybe she needs a new stove, with one fast burner.
